For months now, AI companion apps have been specializing — but not really on LLM benchmarks. That war is already the baseline. Everyone has a model that holds a conversation. The real shift is happening somewhere else.
Apps are splitting into two very different bets. And one of those bets is quietly turning the whole niche upside down.
Two very different bets: immersion vs creation
First bet: immersion. Voice, live calls, long memory, emotional connection cranked to the max. Swipey and Lovescape nailed this angle. Xotic too, with an XP system that builds a real engagement loop. Luvr went all-in on roleplay. On paper, nothing revolutionary. In actual use, it sticks — and it pays.
Second bet, quieter and far more radical: making explicit content creation available to anyone. Not just passively consuming what the app feeds you. Creating the content yourself.
That second bet is the one rewriting the rules.

Promptchan & eHentai: a studio in your pocket
This is where the market actually flips. Promptchan and eHentai are running a fundamentally different play: they hand you a feed of videos other users already made, and — this is the part that matters — they give you the original prompt so you can twist the scene any way you want.
One nuance worth keeping straight: Promptchan is built around fully NSFW video generated from text prompts. eHentai leans more toward images and short anim clips, with a geekier “adult Stable Diffusion” community vibe.
