How I test and rate every app
I'm Seb, the lead tester behind love-pixel.com. I go deep on one app per month—sometimes more if a major update drops. Here is the logic behind my ratings.
My 5 rating criteria
Every app gets a score from 1 to 10 across five key areas.
Realism
Does the conversation actually feel human? I look for memory, context awareness, and natural flow. If I feel the 'code' after ten messages, the score drops.
Chat Quality
This is the big one. I test for response depth and long-term coherence. It's the most important factor in my final verdict.
Voice & Audio
How good is the voice synth? I check for latency, emotional range, and whether it sounds like a person or a 2010 GPS.
Unfiltered content
Does 'NSFW' actually mean unfiltered? Many apps claim to be open but cut you off the moment things get spicy. I push the limits to see who's legit.
Free tier value
What can you actually do without a credit card? I look for apps that give you a real trial, not just a 3-message teaser.
My testing workflow
I test every app for at least two weeks—often a full month for the complex ones. I start with basic roleplay and move into deep, long-term testing to see where the AI breaks. I note the wins and the dealbreakers.
I keep logs of my chats to back up my takes. These scores reflect real usage, not just a quick glance at a landing page.
What drives my recommendations?
Scores, period. Affiliate deals don't change the math. If an app pays a high commission but the AI is trash, I'm going to tell you it's trash.
The top 3 apps on the homepage are there because they have the highest technical scores and the best user satisfaction rates I've seen.
Affiliate disclosure
love-pixel.com is supported by its readers. When you click a link and subscribe, I may earn a commission. That's how I keep the lights on and the tests running.
But let's be clear: it doesn't touch the ratings. A bad app with a good payout is still a bad app. Honesty is the only way this site works long-term.
